Du 3 juin au 29 juillet 2023, la galerie MAGNIN-A ouvre ses portes sur l’univers onirique du photographe et réalisateur congolais Kiripi Katembo (1979-2015). Décédé brutalement à l’âge de 36 ans, Kiripi Katembo laisse derrière lui une œuvre puissante et une vision sublimée de Kinshasa à travers une esthétique photographique unique. Cette exposition, conçue en partenariat avec la Fondation Kiripi Katembo Siku, présentera pour la première fois une vingtaine de tirages et une vidéo issus d’Un regard, série emblématique réalisée entre 2008 et 2013 qui sera également exposée prochainement à la Tate Modern dans le cadre de l’exposition A world in Common : Contemporary African Photography. Enfin, la galerie MAGNIN-A donnera à voir le court métrage Voiture en carton. Un voyage au ras du sol à travers un quartier populaire de Kinshasa présenté au Centre Pompidou en 2008 lors de la 4ème édition du Festival Pocket Films.
From June 3 to July 29, 2023, MAGNIN-A gallery opens its doors to the dreamlike world of Congolese photographer and filmmaker Kiripi Katembo (1979-2015). Kiripi Katembo, who died suddenly at the age of 36, leaves behind a powerful body of work and a sublimated vision of Kinshasa through a unique photographic aesthetic. This exhibition, conceived in partnership with the Kiripi Katembo Siku Foundation, will present for the first time some twenty prints and a video from “Un regard”, an emblematic series produced between 2008 and 2013 that will also be exhibited at the Tate Modern as part of the upcoming exhibition “A world in Common: Contemporary African Photography”. Finally, MAGNIN-A gallery will show the short film “Voiture en carton”. A journey at ground level through a working class neighborhood of Kinshasa presented at the Centre Pompidou in 2008 during the 4th edition of the Pocket Films Festival.
